We conducted user interviews with internal stakeholder and pre-selected external stakeholders that Cvent provided. We identified key data visualization needs in the hospitality industry. We designed an intuitive interface, and implemented interactive data displays with D3.js and Drupal. We went through about 5 revision cycles in wireframing and design to land on the final look and feel. I designed and chose the types of data visualizations that made the most sense for the type of data being presented. I didn't want the tool to be pages and pages of line charts or graphs.
Finding fun and interesting ways to display the data was an exciting challenge to take on. Part of the fun was helping the development team figure out how we would execute on the designs created.
