I was given the opportunity to lead this project from inception through to development hand-off. I started with a full audit of all the Ken Burn film website, all of which, were created by different vendors on a number of different platforms. Through the audit of all the sites, I then put together common site elements that each on shared.
Once I had a library of shared elements I could then begin to wireframe out a bigger pattern library that could be shared by each film page or site. Keeping in mind that I had to maintain a distinct Ken Burns feeling while still retaining the connection to PBS. Borrowing some elements and color from the PBS brand was how we managed to create a cohesive yet distinct design system.
One major part of the project was around having former veterans or family and friends of veterans submit stories to the Vietnam War site in preparation for the release of the film. Creating an easy and intuitive way for folks to share those stories was a fun creative and technical challenge.
